5/31/2021

The American Mission Hospital has become the first private hospital in Bahrain to achieve the CAP accreditation for its Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine.

It is now second in the country, after King Hamad University Hospital, to win this prestigious accreditation which is given only when stringent quality standards, set by the College of American Pathologists (CAP), are met.

“The CAP accreditation is coveted by medical labs across the world, because it gives global recognition of the high-quality standards employed in their operations, and also of the continuous improvements made in the systems. We are therefore proud that our hospital lab systems went through CAP’s rigorous assessments before getting this accreditation”, said Dr George Cheriyan, the Corporate CEO of American Mission Hospital.

Appreciating the Department Head Dr. Sixto Elmar Villena and the Lab Manager Ms. Zakiya Al Hamawi, the Group CEO Ms. Julia Tovey said: “Our hospital, and especially our pathology department head, manager and the lab team, have always ensured that the equipment we use, the tests we conduct, and the reports we produce, through all our processes meet global standards. It is really a very fulfilling moment for all of us”.

The CAP accreditation program follows a peer inspection model, combined with annual checklist updates and year-round education, strengthens each laboratory’s ability to deliver high-quality service that ensures the best patient care possible.
